Knitting sweaters for the world

Every week a group of talented ladies meet at the Oxford United Methodist Church to turn yarn into compassion.
Over the last four months, this group, known as Knit Knack, has hand-crafted 40 colorful sweaters for World Vision International ? a Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
‘They’ll go all over the world ? wherever the kids need sweaters,? said Knit Knack member Joyce Wood.
Knit Knack consists of both church members and nonmembers who meet every Friday from 2-4 p.m. at OUMC. Formed about three years ago, the group knits things for themselves and others. In the past, the group’s made shawls and wheelchair bags for the Lake Orion Nursing Center and ‘lapghans? for veterans.
During the Christmas season, the group’s knitted hats, mittens and scarves for both local school kids in need and the Baldwin Center, a human services agency in Pontiac that aids the poor.
