Lady Cat golfers continue to swing on course

The Lady Cats varsity golf team continues to impress Coach Gretchen Gabler. The girls placed 10 out of 18 with a score of 399 at a tournament Monday played at the Davison Country Club.
‘It was a good tournament for us to play in because that’s where regionals are at on Oct. 8, so it allowed us to have some time on the course,? said Gabler. ‘The greens on that course are so tough, but the girls did really well.?
Senior Katie Guthrie shot a 90, junior Kenzie Chaisson, 93, sophomore Lauren yankee 105 and freshmen Lauren Opalewski 111.
Guthrie, Opalewski and JV golfer freshman Caity Hopman all took home medals for scoring in the top five in their grade.
The girls also placed seventh with 356 points out of 23 teams at the Ninth Annual Farmington Invite, held Sept. 11.
Four personal bests were carded for the Wildcats, Captain McKenzie Chaisson and sophomore Lauren Yankee both shot 88. Senior Katie Guthrie carded an 89, freshman Lauren Opalewski had a 91 and Captain Emily Zeliasko scored a 92.
‘We are so pleased that our hard work and dedication is resulting in lower scores and higher finishes,? Gabler said. ‘My girls played so amazingly. They just played with confidence.?
Gabler noted how easy it has been to coach the team this year because of the girls? willingness to want to learn and get better.
‘They have a lot of fun on the way to their matches, but when we get on the golf course, it’s all business,? she added. ‘It’s all about playing golf and playing well. It’s not about beating anybody or anything but the golf course.?
The girls will travel to Rochester on Sept. 21 to play a tournament at the Great Oaks Country Club.
