Clio— On June 3, the Goodrich Martian Girls Softball team defeated Linden 6-2 and shutout Lake Fenton 8-0 in the night cap, for the district championship at Clio High School.
At noon, June 10 the Lady Martians face North Branch in regional action. The Martians improved to an impressive 34-2-1 for the 2023 season.
In his third season at the helm for Goodrich, Head Coach Don Peters said the team is in the conversation for being one of the best in his career.
“This team started the season 2-2,” said Peters, a high school softball coach for 37 years who recently notched 1,000 wins. “This is a great group of girls, who made some outstanding defensive plays and clutch hits to make this season special. From a bases loaded triple to a grand slam with two strikes and two outs, to diving for the ball on defense, the 2023 Martians have done it all. I’m very proud of them. They all worked hard during the season and in the off-season, it’s a good group.”
