Ladycats winless, but hopeful

The Oxford Ladycats are still striving and fighting to notch that first league win on their record.
Oxford completed their first round of the Flint Metro league schedule against the Holly Bronchos.
Oxford came out strong, but couldn’t keep the momentum in the second quarter, giving up 19 points to Holly.
Oxford outscored Holly in the first, third, and fourth quarters, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the second quarter lapse and lost the game 45-38.
A positive aspect of the loss was the fact that Ladycats contributed offensively.
‘We did have our offense spread out a little more, and we hit a few more shots, so we just have to keep building on that in practice,? head coach Al Poynter stated.
Senior captain Ashley Seeling had 10 points and senior Gena Nelson finished with 6 points.
Looking to avenge their loss from earlier in the season, the Ladycats came out to play against Lapeer East.
The entire game was neck and neck as Oxford pulled away little by little, outscoring East in the first and second quarters.
Oxford went in to the fourth quarter up three points on the Eagles, but couldn’t keep their momentum and was outscored in the quarter by five points.
A mere two points, 37-35, defeated Oxford.
Poynter added that this was his squad’s most complete game in league play and blamed rebounding and defensive lapses late in the fourth for the loss.
Oxford’s record drops to 0-8 in the league and 3-11 overall.
