A roster of 26 Lake Orion elementary and middle schools students competed in the State Hershey Track and Field meet on July 8 in Holt. Students who won events at the local Dragon GAP Hershey Meet on June 10 automatically qualified to participate at the State meet.
Madison Eaton, a 5th grader at Carpenter Elementary School, led the way for Lake Orion athletes taking 1st place in 9-10 year old 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and standing long jump.
Eaton was also selected to compete in the Hershey Track & Field North American Finals in Hershey Pa., August 3 – 5. Eaton will receive a free all expense trip to tour the Hershey Chocolate Factory, Hershey Amusement Park. They will meet Olympic Gold Medalist Carl Lewis and other celebrities on her trip.
Rounding out the state champions was Oakview Middle School 8th grader Hannah Cady who captured the girls 13-14year old 200 meter dash title and finished 3rd in the 100 meter dash.
