The Lake Orion boys? track team could possibly be called a dynasty after the Dragons won their fourth consecutive league championship last week.
On a rainy afternoon and evening in Oxford, the boys scored 132 points to outdistance Oxford’s 111. Troy Adams was third with 89 points, followed by Stoney Creek with 88, Clarkston with 77, Rochester with 57, Troy Athens with 51 and Troy with 17.
Sheldon Drake helped lead the Dragons with wins in the 100m and 200m dashes as well as anchoring the 1600m relay. Andrew Lorant, one of the best distance runners in the state, won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and participated in the 3200m relay win.
The league champions included: 3200m Relay – Jacob Arenz, Nolan Maupin, Michael Jarvis, and Andrew Lorant. 100m Dash – Sheldon Drake.1600m Run – Andrew Lorant. 400m Dash – Kevin Hansen. 3200m Run – Andrew Lorant. 200m Dash – Sheldon Drake. 1600m Relay – Kevin Hansen, Devon DePauw, Jacob Hoffman, and Sheldon Drake.
The Dragon girls did very well, too, with a second place finish. The ladies 3200m relay took a first place. The runners were Margaret Hastings, Bellina Gaskey, Lauren Bennicke and Rachel Zeile.
There are some pretty good upcoming track stars for Coach Stan Ford’s future teams.
The ninth and 10th grade track team went to the Fenton Invitational, where they took home first place honors with 142 pts. Brandon was second with 122 pts. Followed by Swartz Creek 75, Fenton 68, Holly 60, Walled Lake Western 53, Farmington Harrison 50 pts, Montrose 38 pts, and Flint Powers Catholic with 18 pts.
Individual champions included: 3200m Relay – Matthew Mulligan, Chase McBride, Drew Giem, and Nolan Maupin. 800m – Nolan Maupin. 300m Hurdles – Tyler Skibicki. 800m Relay – Doug Mason, Chris Wilson, Dan White, and Jacob Hoffman. 1600m Relay – Matthew Mulligan, Jaren Albright, Chase McBride, and Doug Mason.
