Chicago is coming to Detroit with nationally know actor John O’Hurley starring as Billy Flynn and with Lake Orion native Lenny Daniel. Chicago will be at Detroit’s Fisher Theatre May 17 -22.
The play opened to rave reviews on November 14, 1996, and is now has the distinction of being the longest-running musical revival playing on Broadway, the second longest-running musical production currently playing on Broadway, and the fifth longest-running production in Broadway history.
Daniel, 44, is a 1985 Lake Orion High School graduate, who now resides in New York City. His family still lives locally. According to his bio, Daniel played Alonzo in the final Broadway Company of ‘Cats.? Another highlight was the San Francisco and New York City production of ‘Here Lies Jenny,? with Bebe Neuwirth, where he was also the production’s dance captain for choreographer, Ann Reinking.
He both performed in and assistant directed Madison Square Garden’s National Tour of ‘The Wizard of Oz,? starring Mickey Rooney, Roseanne and Eartha Kitt. He performed in the World Premier of ‘Sinatra … His Voice, His World, His Way,? at Radio City Music Hall and New York City Opera’s ‘Wonderful Town,? at Lincoln Center.
Other National Tours include ‘Spamalot? (Tour and Vegas), ‘Chicago? ( also internationally), ‘Camelot? and ‘South Pacific,? both starring Robert Goulet, and the pre-Broadway tour of ‘Jekyll & Hyde.?
In addition to performing, he enjoys being the assistant choreographer, assistant director or dance captain on most of the productions with which he is involved. He can be heard on the Grammy nominated cast album of ‘The Wizard of Oz? and ‘Carols for Cures: 2000,? presented by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
