Brandon Twp.- Brandon Township Supervisor Ron Lapp made it official on Wednesday that he will seek a second term as supervisor.
‘We need a township park, the east and west Glass Road realignment project, and a plan to get sewers in here will be top priorities for my next term,? said Lapp, about an hour after filing the required 20 signatures for the Nov. 2, 2004 ballot.
Lapp, 52, a graduate of Midland Bullock Creek High School, joined the Michigan State Police in 1970 and served 27 years as a trooper before retiring as post commander in 1997.
In 1996, he was elected as a Brandon Township Trustee and in 2000 Lapp won the Township top spot over challengers Bonnie Kerin and Becky Gilpin.
Lapp lists his top accomplishments during the past four years as holding the line on taxes, purchasing the current township building from the village, which he says was a good move in the townships? financial future. He also lists the Brandon Fire Department transition from basic ambulance service to advanced life support and the construction of Fire Station 3 as accomplishments. In addition, Lapp helped to maintain a DARE officer at Brandon Schools as well as adding a sergeant to the Brandon Sheriff substation.
‘We’ve run this entire township since 1978 on only one mill,? Lap said. Actually in 2002 we reduced the taxes.?
‘We did a lot here and never raised taxes,? said Lapp. ‘I just don’t believe in levy and spend.?
As the Safety Path was the first brainchild of the current board to complete from inception, Lapp says there are many projects to benefit the community, including road ditching, and providing recreational areas that need attention.
With a long career of serving the public and the father of three grown children Derek 32, Kristen 31, and Anthony 22, all Brandon High School graduates, Lapp a 25 year Brandon Township resident is not ready to walk away from so many projects that need to be completed.
As of Feb. 5, 2004 Lapp is the only candidate who has turned in a signature petition for the supervisory seat.
