Legion helps out at vet event

Chief Pontiac 377 American Legion, Auxiliary, S.A.L, and Juniors of Independence Township work all year, sponsoring and providing volunteers for the annual Veterans Stand Down.
‘These are the men and women who bravely served our country ? now you can help them in just a small way. They need us as we needed them,? said Ivy Lee Reinhardt, legion auxiliary.
The Michigan Veterans Foundation hosts the event, 9 a.m., July 23-24 at the Detroit Veterans Center, 2770 Park Avenue, off Woodward and Temple.
The Chief Pontiac post makes personal item kits, sets up meals, and collects new and slightly used t-shirts, shoes, flip flops, and food.
Still needed for the Stand Down are face clothes, towels, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, soap, combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, bottled water, coffee, cream, sugar, new and used t-shirts for men and women, paper plates, cups, drink mixes, and snacks.
To donate, deliver to Chief Pontiac 377 American Legion at 4849 Mary Sue in Independence Township or call Reinhart, 248-693-2998.
