A 29-year-old Leonard man was found dead July 30 in the parking lot of the Oxford McDonald’s (655 N. Lapeer Rd.) with some suspected heroin inside his vehicle.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Zonnie Olk-Szost.
The cause of death has not yet been determined as investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology tests, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Patterson, commander of the Oxford Township substation.
Patterson indicated that Olk-Szost had a history of heroin use. Some suspected heroin, described in the report as a ‘brown powdery substance,? was found inside his 1996 Chevy pickup truck and sent for testing.
‘It was a small amount,? the sergeant said. ‘There wasn’t much.?
Security camera footage from the McDonald’s showed Olk-Szost entering the restaurant around 7:20 a.m.
‘He came in by himself, bought some food, then exited the store,? Patterson said.
It appears Olk-Szost went back to his truck and subsequently died in the parking lot. He spent most the day there. ‘People thought he was sleeping,? Patterson said.
The incident was reported to the sheriff’s office shortly after 2 p.m. after a McDonald’s manager and customer attempted to wake Olk-Szost, according to Patterson. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:35 p.m.
