“You do it, Sue (Bossardet),” he said. “You’re always telling everybody else to do something. You never do anything yourself.”
? Oxford Downtown Development Authority Board Member Rod Charles speaking at the March 16 meeting
Thank you, Mr. Charles for saying what I’ve been thinking for the last two years I’ve volunteered for this event. No, not the part about her running the event, but the part about her always telling everyone else to do something and never doing anything herself. I should know. I witnessed it during our ‘planning meetings.?
I attended every meeting I could (sometimes with kids in tow). I may have missed one or two, but I’m a mom with a husband that works full time and I only have so much time in my day. I loved planning Kids Town. I loved being a part of my community. I hated those meetings, the stress and drama that came with it.
While I agree that someone needs to head up this event, I do not agree that they should get paid to do so, especially not out of donated funds and commissions on sponsorships. There are far better uses for those funds.
There are reasons why two of last year’s volunteers are not coming back and not one of them is due to not wanting to be part of the event. I hope you’re informing your sponsors and donors where part of their money is going.
