In the more than 30 years I have lived and/or worked in this community, I’ve observed that transparency is our most elusive asset.
So, I applaud C.J. Carnacchio’s efforts in publishing such comprehensive information in a recent article (re: Aug. 26 ‘Police chief’s $1M inheritance led to investigation).
As a reporter and/or participant of many boards, my stomach has churned dozens of times at the hushed ‘Good-Ol?-Boy? practices I’ve witnessed over the years,, therefore I am disappointed to read the criticisms of ‘old news? and ‘too long of a story,? in publishing information about a county inquiry of one of your public employees.
I, for one, choose not to put my head in the sand should the subject be too uncomfortable, therefore if rumors or suspicions exist surrounding one of our community employees, I would like to learn as much as possible from official data surrounding the uncomfortable conjecture so that I may, on my own, decide an opinion regarding ethics, morals, or pure luck.
Too long or not, I read the whole article C.J, and having worked under your direction, I am sure you worked very diligently to get it right.
Thank you to C.J. for filtering through the myriads of inquiry in order to convey information to your readers, and thank you to the Oxford Leader for supporting this difficult work.
