Letter to the Editor – Firefighters help underprivileged kids

As the Christmas season approaches many traditions and repeat practices are rekindled.? People hang lights, illuminating their homes in red and green. Cars can be seen driving with a tightly bound spruce to its roof.
And Orion firefighters can be seen escorting local underprivileged children on a Christmas shopping spree for their families.
During mid-December, many of Orion’s firefighters participate in the annual ‘Shop with a Hero? event. In addition to the firefighters, several surrounding fire departments, the 1775th MP unit, and FBI agents out of Troy, Mich., will be in attendance to ensure local children will have a Christmas.
Through the support of local businesses and citizens, the Orion Fire Fighters Association (OFFA) was able to raise over $3,000 towards Shop with a Hero.?
The businesses that participated in the fundraising were Baldwin Cafe, Chicago Brothers Pizza, Dairy Queen, G’s Pizzeria, Jet’s Pizza, Sagebrush Cantina, Tom’s Coney, Larry Mullins and Environmental Wood Solutions.
On behalf of the OFFA, we want to thank all those businesses and people that donated to this great cause. Every cent raised goes right to the children and we couldn’t be happier with how generous the people of Orion Township are.
The event takes place on December 13 at the Meijer in Oxford.
Sincerely,?
The Orion Fire Fighters Association
