Letters to Editor: Dorm generates reader opinions

For the citizens opposing the four-story dorm to house the Chinese students ? if you think the Planning Commission will listen to you and adhere to present zoning – don’t hold your breath.
At several recent hearings, earlier this year, about the proposed White Pines development at the south end of the township, area home owners were all vehemently opposed to the project.
The area is zoned five-acre suburban farm. The developer wanted to build homes on lots less than an acre.
Did the planning commission care about all the objections and adhering to current zoning? Not in the least.
They turned a deaf ear to the home owners and approved the developers plan. It was later turned down by the township board with the supervisor expressing his preference for lots at least one acre in size.
The planning commission will probably do the same to you and approve the four-story dormitory.
The only one on that commission who makes sense is Kallie Roesner-Meyers.

A big concern for a high school dormitory is that one cannot find an example of where it has been done.
Two-hundred-eight kids need to wake up, shower, eat breakfast and then march to the High School at the same time.
Last week I read ‘and they do that at Rochester College.? No, most colleges have different start times for different students plus Rochester College has two resident halls for 270 students with 1 bathroom shared by 4 students. From what I could tell from the plan shown in the Leader; Weiming is planning on one bathroom for 36 students.
Rochester College is a private religious institution and they are partnering with a public high school for Visas? The contract terms with Rochester College must be very interesting.
The issue of losing state funding for second/third year students tells me their tuition needs to go up $6,000-plus in each of these years for the school to break even.
These kids may be spending a lot of money but it will be on items for friends and family back home not available in Oxford. When a comrade from China visits me we go to Macy’s, The Gap, Hilfiger or order iphones from amazon.
