Capitol riot reactions
Dear Editor,
As our community grapples with the riots that occurred at the Capitol in Washington D.C. and the ongoing impeachment trial of Donald Trump, it is interesting to see what was said after similar events in our history.
After the 2021 riots in Wash D.C., Donald Trump said, “The demonstrators who infiltrated the capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country and to those who broke the law, you will pay.”
After the 2011 riots at the Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin by Democrats, Nancy Pelosi praised the rioters for their “impressive show of democracy in action.” The riots were very similar in nature (smashed windows, vandalism and politicians hiding from danger) except the one in Madison was much larger than the one in Washington.
Seems we have the wrong person on trial. Perhaps the accused and accuser need to switch seats?
