(In response to ‘M-15 traffic, congestion draw township concern,’ The Citizen, Feb. 26, page 1)

Dear Editor
What is the value of our children’s safety? We need to talk about traffic danger and health concerns.
First, the traffic dangers. The intersection of Wolfe Road and M-15 is never an easy one-no matter the day or time. From the schools, car wash, dentist office, McDonalds and church, traffic moving through is always heavy. Most importantly, this intersection is smack dab in the middle of our school zone!
Our district has roughly 264 staff members and 2,221 students (20-21 data). Three of our schools are located within the two miles of this intersection. That is a lot of our community moving through here multiple times a day. Traffic backs up on its own, much less when this gravel business wants to move at least 100 gravel trains into the mix. Adding the chaos and congestion to young student drivers and families will only add danger and accidents. Gravel trains will back up our turn lanes, our normal lanes and our residential roads as they wait for the long breaks in traffic they need to turn in/out.
Second, we need to talk about the toxins in the dust that will come off these 35 feet tall mounds of concrete and “other” materials. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS MATERIAL! This dust is in the line to blow straight to the ball fields where baseball, soccer, football and lacrosse are played, where our gym classes play outside, where our kids congregate. It will be breathed in as our children walk to A&W and McDonalds or walk home from school. The damage it can cause lungs is irreversible.
As a community, we welcome businesses- like the new restaurant set to open soon. They have outdoor seating that will NOT be usable due to the dust blowing into their back rollup doors. This gravel business will affect everyone living in and visiting our community-and not for the better. The Brandon Township Planning Commission needs to be our voice and vote no on this business coming to our school zone.
