Lighthouse needs donations

Lighthouse of Oakland County is asking its neighbors for help to meet an unprecedented demand by southeast Michigan families for food during the holidays. More than 1,500 families and seniors have turned to Lighthouse’s Thanksgiving Program for assistance this year, representing an increase of 27 percent.
Donations are being accepted Monday, Nov. 17 through Friday, Nov. 21 at All Saint’s Church, 171 West Pike Street, Pontiac and
Lighthouse Emergency Services, 6330 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston to fulfill those requests.
‘Our goal is to collect 100 turkeys, two thousand pounds of potatoes and as much other traditional Thanksgiving food as we can,? said John Ziraldo, Lighthouse CEO. ‘The growing demand for our services is a clear reflection of the declining economy. As a result, contributions from corporations and private donors are declining as well. If we all do a little, our combined efforts will allow us to help the many families who need our support.?
Monetary donations to Lighthouse’s Thanksgiving Program are also welcome and will be used to help defray the cost of specific food items not received from donors.
