Lions top tough conference foe

For the first time since entering the same conference five years ago, the Lake Orion Baptist School Lions topped Springfield Christian Academy, holding off a late rally for a 67-60 victory.
The host Lions built a 10-point halftime advantage and expanded it to 21 in the third quarter, taking a 59-38 lead into the fourth.
But the visiting Eagles used a full court press to begin a comeback, and resorted to fouling the Lions to put them at the free throw line at the four minute mark.
The Lions assisted by eight of 12 attempts down the stretch, including three front ends of one-and-ones.
The Eagles got within three points with two minutes left, when Erick Dewar and Chris Hojnacki hit a couple of baskets and Ben Cuyler made two free throws to seal the win.
Five players scored in double figures for the Lions, led by 16 points and 11 rebounds from center Matt Dobis. Hojnacki added 16 points off the bench, along with eight boards.
Culyer and Dewar each had 12 points for the Lions and Zach Halleck had 10. The Lions improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-3 in the FBAC.
The team travels to Springfield for a rematch on Friday.
