This past Saturday, (Nov. 10), at Waterford Pierce Middle School, the Lake Orion JV Green Dragons’defeated Clarkston White, 20-14 in overtime, to win the Northern Youth Football League Championship.?
The Dragons drew’blood early in the first quarter on a 32-yard touchdown toss by Connor Grant to tight end Charlie Highlen, to make it 6-0.?
After Clarkston punted the ball back to the Dragons, they again marched down the field and scored on a 14-yard toss from Grant to tight end Charles Khoury.?
The score remained 14-0 throughout the second and third until Clarkston broke through on a 5-yard run, to cut the lead to 14-6’early in the final quarter.’They went’for two and were successful, making it 14-8.? ?
After the Dragons could not move the ball, they punted back to the Chiefs, who took over at the Dragons 40-yard-line with 7:35 left in the game.?
Clarkston drove down to score with just under two minutes left but the extra point was blocked by Grant and Devon Lewis.?
The Dragons marched down the field, but ran out of time.?
The game went into overtime,’where each team gets the ball at the 10-yard-line, first and goal.?
Clarkston started overtime with the ball on offense and were held by a stingy Dragon Defense.?
When the Dragons got their chance on offense they couldn’t move the ball on the Clarkston defense either.?
But on fourth down, Grant threw an 8-yard touchdown strike to Khoury to give Lake Orion its first ever football title.
