2007 was one of the most successful years ever for the Lake Orion High School Art Department. Many talented individuals thrived in the artistically challenging environment.
A multitude of students received recognition in the prestigious Scholastic Art Awards. Brad Lawrence, Nikki Kaminski and Zack Kendra all received National Scholastic Awards and have had their artwork displayed at Carnegie Hall for the past year.
Steve Koss and Lawrence have artwork in the governor’s traveling show.
One of the most impressive accomplishments of the year was Pete Binggeser’s success in the Congressional Art Show Competition. Each Congressman chose a winner for his district.
Congressman Joe Knollenberg awarded Binggeser with first place in this district. Binggeser’s self portrait has been displayed at the United States Capitol for the past few months.
‘One of the hallways was lined with art from all the winners,? Binggeser said. ‘It was very cool to see my art among them.?
Binggeser learned stenciling from his brother.
‘He taught me how to do stenciling and I just took it from there when he went back to college,? he said.
Binggeser is currently attending Illinois Technical University in Chicago for architecture.
