Local skiers fall to Flushing

The Brandon-Oxford ski team had their hands full with Flushing in a Feb. 1 meet at Mt. Holly.
The girls team lost a 24-49 meet to Flushing, while the boys team fell to the Raiders 24-54. Only one skier from each team placed for the Brandon-Oxford unit.
On the girls side, Julie Kehoe of Flushing finished first in the slalom at 63.2, followed by Stephanie Marchetta (67.38), Ashley Newman (69.04) and Liz Marchetta (69.34).
Brandon-Oxford’s Karen Offer provided a highlight for the local team by winning the giant slalom in 50:43, along with Stephanie Marchetta. Kehoe placed third in the event (50.79), while Liz Marchetta finished fourth 51.53.
In the boys races, Flushing took the top two spots in the slalom, with Craig Hamilton finishing first (59.61) and Kirk Kelly second (60.75). Brandon-Oxford’s Robert Krug placed third (64.14), while Brian Halloway finished fourth (65.45).
Hamilton and Kelly again placed 1-2 in the giant slalom, with times of 50.12 and 50.97, while Krug placed third at 51.06 and Mitchell Newman of Flushing finished fourth at 51.40.
