A Brandon Township man has been arraigned on a felonious assault charge after he attacked another man with a baseball bat, and his girlfriend is also wanted in connection with the incident.
Brian Michael Koop, 18, was arraigned on Sept. 20 in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Kelley Kostin. Samantha Leighann Layman, 19, is wanted on active warrants for felonious assault and malicious destruction of property under $1,000 relating to the confrontation that took place in the Sashabaw Meadows Mobile Home Park on Sept. 18. She also has a separate warrant for domestic violence.
According to police reports, Brandon deputies were dispatched to the mobile home park in the early morning hours of Sept. 18 regarding a confrontation, but police arrived to find the suspects had left. Later that day, around 9:50 p.m., the deputies were dispatched to a fight in progress at Pinoak and Birch. They arrived at the intersection of Dogwood and Pinoak, where they were flagged down by a witness. The 18-year-old victim was in front of a home in the 3700 block of Birch. The fight had taken place in front of a home in the 3600 block of Hawthorne.
In a statement, Koop admitted selling marijuana from the Hawthorne residence to the victim, his younger brother, and their friend. The friend hit Koop during the drug deal, and Koop said he hit the victim with a baseball bat after feeling his and Layman’s lives were threatened.
Layman allegedly used a tire iron to strike the victim on the back of his head, and to smash out windows on the victim’s older brother’s vehicle.
The victim received 10 staples in his head as a result of the incident.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Samantha Leighann Layman is asked to call 1 (888) TURN-1-IN.
