Local writer’s poetry comes from the heart

TimothyPrice’s creativity began as a young child when he and his brother would make greeting cards out of colored construction paper.
‘My mom and dad were short on money and they wanted us to expand our minds,? he said. ‘They would say ‘Fold this up and make a bunny or draw a bunny on here and that will be your Easter card.? We would write Happy Easter.
Price said his creativity grew from his card making days into poetry, drawing, painting, playing guitar, writing songs, and singing. He said his mom was into drawing and his dad was an engineer and into graphic design.
Price recently published a book entitled ‘Searching for Truth as a Human,? which is a mixture of poetry and prose which he has written over the last 13 years, as well as features one of his drawings on the front cover.
‘It’s my philosophical journey through life is how I would word it,? he said.
He writes about truths he’s learned about love, romance, sex, in adeventure and metaphysics, as well as exploring music, art and pop culture.
‘The main truth that I’ve found of expressing in this book is the love between a man and a woman,? he said.
Price said he started writing poetry seriously at age 17, while taking a creative writing class in high school. He said he loves poetry because ‘it’s free.?
‘You can do what you want to do with the words and no one can tell you what to do,? he said. ‘You can get your point across and get your thoughts out on paper.?
Some of his favorite poets include Allen Ginsberg, Walt Whitman, and Edgar Allen Poe.
He is currently also working his autobiography called Supernova.
‘Supernova is just a biography of my life in just an original type of way of writing. I’m writing it in a circular fashion rather than linier,? he said. ‘The expanded reasoning is along the lines of ‘Searching for Truth as a Human,? poetry and prose and some other factual stuff in there like science.?
As well as a science fiction novel called ‘Orion’s Shoulder,? another poetry book entitled ‘Expanded Reasoning,? and he plans to publish a book of his drawings.
‘Orion’s Shoulder? is about a group of people who come from an earth type planet, which are working on Karmic lessons,? Price said. ‘When they graduate Karmic lessons they want to go spend time on a paradise planet, but paradise planet is being invaded by pirates who are trying to steal the energy of the planet, the Chi and they have to defend the planet against the pirates.?
Price was born in Southfield Mi and moved to the Clarkston area when he was 12 years old. He played hockey from childhood until senior year of high school. He went on to the University of Michigan where he graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in English.
