LOHS student planned to jump from Mackinac Bridge

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of suspicious circumstances at Lake Orion High School on Scripps Road on May 31.
According to an OCSD report, a Lake Orion Police Department officer called and said he’d received a call from the Michigan State Police, saying a Lake Orion wrestler was planning to jump off the Mackinac Bridge and videotape his jump.
They said the information came from a dental assistant who works at the office where the student is a patient. She said she thought he was serious and that he had burn marks on his arms.
The OCSD eventually located the student, a 17-year-old Lake Orion boy, who admitted he had mentioned jumping off the bridge to the dental assistant. He said he’d been planning to go that weekend, but his plans changed.
He said he knew how to do it safely, and that his father was a Navy Seal so he knew what equipment to use. The OCSD warned him about the dangers and said just talking about it could get him in trouble, so the boy apologized and said he wouldn’t do it.
