Longtime Oxford fireman and Lions member dies at 75

“He was the kind of guy you looked up to. Well-liked. Very respectable.”
That’s how Oxford Fire Chief Jack LeRoy described John “J.C.” Webster, who served as an active member of the department from 1964 on.
Webster passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003. He was 75.
“He was a super guy,” LeRoy said. “Very dedicated to the department and the community.
“He was always one to get out and trumpet a cause” whether it was the Oxford Lions Club (of which he was a past president and proud member for more than 40 years) or ice cream social fund-raisers for the fire department.
