Goodrich-After leading the Martians to a perfect regular football season in 2008, Quarterback Joe Boisture is moving to another high school.
Due to a change in his father’s employment, Boisture, 17, will relocate to Saline, a city of 8,000 located a few miles southwest of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County. Joe will attend Saline High School, a Division I school with an enrollment of about 1,800 students. In comparison, Goodrich High School is Division IV with an enrollment of about 500 students.
‘I started my junior year,? said Boisture. ‘I had a great time with the team. The Goodrich coaches were great, they did all they could for me here. Despite the loss in the second round of the playoffs to Marshall, we had a great year. Going 9-0 in the regular season is outstanding.?
College football scouts from Boston College, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Wisconsin have expressed interest in Boisture. In addition, scouts from Michigan State University have attended Martian football games to watch him play.
Boisture, 6 foot-6 inches and 200 pounds, played on the junior varsity football team as a freshman and joined the varsity squad as a sophomore, however due to an elbow injury did not play.
Boisture threw for 1,700 yards with 13 touchdown passes last year.
Saline High School Varsity Coach Mike Glennie has been at the helm for seven years and says Boisture will have some competition for the starting quarterback position.
‘There’s no guarantee of a starting position,? said Glennie.
‘We have a great program here at the varsity level. Joe will have an opportunity to compete as a starting quarterback. I have three seniors that have expressed a desire to play quarterback.?
Glennie said the team was 6-3 in 2008, with a loss in the second round of the playoffs. The last five quarterbacks have gone on to play at the college level, he said.
‘We run a balanced attack with 50 percent run and 50 percent pass. We produced about 2,500 yards of offense last year with a runningback that carried for 1,600 yards. The fans are great here’we expect anywhere from 6,000-7,000 fans on a Friday night.?
