Martians struggle in hoops action

GOODRICH- The Martian varsity basketball team has seen its share of ups and downs this season, and the past two weeks have been no except.
On Thursday, Feb. 13, the boys took on league rivals the Lake Fenton Blue Devils for a disappointing 43-62 loss at home.
In the Martians seemed in control as the game began, but had a devastating second quarter in which the Devils outscored them 16-5.
In the loss Michael Skinner led the Martians with 13 points. Following close behind, were Michael McCormick and Charlie Goetz with 11 and nine points respectively.
McCormick led the way in rebounding, pulling down 13, while Goetz nabbed five.
Going into last week, the Martians got back in the game and narrowly defeated Byron 50-44. Kori Garman led the way for Goodrich this time around, with 13 points. Billy Bartley wasn’t lacking either, and put 12 points on the board for the Martians. Goetz added seven points for the night.
In rebounding, Goetz pulled down eight, while McCormick got his hands on seven, and both Garman and Bartley nabbed five.
The boys traveled to Mt. Morris to take on the Panthers on Friday, Feb. 21, however, no scores were available by press time.
Next on the agenda for Goodrich is a match up on the road with LakeVille, Feb. 25. The boys then return home for their final home match-up, against the Montrose Rams on Friday, Feb. 28.
Game time for both games is slated for 7:15 p.m., after JV play.
