In your mind, what are the biggest issues the next township board will face?
Providing services with dwindling financial resources. 1) Managing traffic. Widening roads is necessary but creates pressure for intense development. Good planning promotes development while minimizing blight, conflict points and traffic signals that slow traffic. 2) Supporting local business by concentrating commercial development into the ‘downtown? areas of the Village and Gingellville. 3) Attracting quality industrial development to provide a good tax base and living-wage employment.
We must accomplish all without compromising our own ordinances.
Why are you running for treasurer?
The treasurer manages investments and daily operations of the treasurer’s office while also representing the people on the township board. Banking operations, tax preparation and bookkeeping have prepared me to manage the township finances. My duties as deputy supervisor gave me experience with the daily operations of the township hall. As a former elected township trustee and member of other boards and committees, I have extensive, varied experience representing the people and making public policies.

In your mind, what are the biggest issues the next township board will face?
The downturn in the economy, and its ramifications, will challenge the next board to be fiscally responsible. We must update our Master Plan in the coming year and ensure a workable balance among residents, businesses, and recreational or open spaces. Demographics will become more important with ‘baby boomers? adding to our aging population. Communications from the township board to the public must improve. Our fee structures, sign ordinance, etc. must be reviewed and updated.
Why are you running for treasurer?
In 2004, I was honored to be elected treasurer of Orion Township. It has been a life-changing experience. I would like to continue to be treasurer because I feel I still have more to give to this wonderful community. I have learned a lot in the past four years, but I have experience, the wisdom, and the independent thought needed to serve Orion Township and help guide it into the future.
