Ortonville – Despite sporadic rain showers several hundred classic car buffs showedup for the first annual Street Machine Super Show on Aug. 3.
‘I think it went very well considering the weather,? said Dave Bonner, event organizer.
‘I was surprised they (the cruisers) came at all, in the rain.?
More than 130 street cruisers, antique, stock cars, muscle cars, trucks, and motorcycles registered for the show and both Bonner and Downtown Development Authority member Robert Renchik said all registrants showed up.
Bonner, who organized the event, along with the DDA members, said he felt the first Ortonville cruise was a success and that he was very proud. Learning from what was or could have been done this year, Bonner said he hopes to continue with a bigger and better event next year.
‘It’s what the people want and I’m going to bring it to the people,? he said.
Bonner credits the volunteers, DDA members, and council members with the success of the event saying, ‘this town has so much capability, it’s a matter of just doing it.?
‘Hopefully there will be more people that want to get involved,? Bonner continued ‘There are a lot of people who would like to do the work.?
‘In the past the DDA would send out a request for resumes to volunteers ? we don’t need that in this town,? he said.
‘People volunteer from the heart and it’s done right from the heart.?
‘That’s what we need and that’s the way it should be done.?
While no one could give an accurate number count of spectators who attended the Street Machine Super Show, DDA members sold 45 pounds of brats, 230 hot dogs and 25 pounds of hamburgers.
