Grab a big bag of popcorn and a large Cherry Coke and head over to Civic Center Park at 2525 Joslyn Road for an evening of movie music with Lake Orion’s own North Oakland Concert Band.
Annette Kline directs the 60-plus member band in selections from popular movie sound tracks in a program entitled A Night At the Movies on June 19, at 7 p.m. The program will take place at the new Wildwood Amphitheater of Orion Township in the southwest corner of the park and will feature music by John Williams, Harold Arlen and others.
Annette Kline chose an entertaining selection of lively music from a cross-section of familiar films. Whistle along at the start of the concert with the Colonel Bogey March from the film A Bridge Over the River Kwai, and then feel the dry desert wind in your face with the Academy Award winning music from the movie Silverado. Adventure thrillers are represented on the program as well with the frenetic themes from The Incredibles and the sultry music from the 007 movies. The lilting melodies and high-stepping dances of Ireland will be featured in a symphonic suite arranged from the music of Far and Away which starred Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
No night of movie music would be complete without the music from The Wizard of Oz and this concert is no exception. The concert ends with a bang as the band plays John Williams? exciting march from the movie 1941.
The North Oakland Concert Band has provided free concerts to the local community for over 30 years.? Based in Lake Orion, the band members travel from all over the Metro Detroit area to play in this top-level community band under the direction of Annette Kline.
