Mushroom mania crops up in Brandon Township

On March 17, at about 1:30 a.m., a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the area of Ortonville Road and Seymour Lake Road to look for a white Grand Prix, the driver of which was hallucinating after taking mushrooms.
Dispatch advised the driver did not know where he was and refused to stop. The vehicle was found stopped in the intersection. The deputy approached the vehicle and the driver turned off the ignition, pulled out the keys and threw them on the ground.
He asked the deputy to help him, saying he did not want to die. He said he took one-eighth of an ounce of mushrooms at 11:15 p.m. with salsa because he wanted to try something different.
The Brandon Fire Department transported him to Crittenton Hospital in Rochester for evaluation, where the deputy informed him he was under arrest for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs. He was released pending further investigation as a blood sample was sent to the crime lab.
