Two road trips this past week proved successful for the Oxford varsity volleyball team who now sits undefeated in the Flint Metro League..
On Thursday, the Lady Cats defeated Lapeer East 15-8 and 15-10.
Pusing forward offensively was Caryn Inman with eight kills and seven service points in addition to her seven blocks and eight digs.
Brandi Parker held an excellent setting average of 100 percent for the night, while Lindsey Tarrant assisted with six for six of her own. Tarrant also had two service points, four digs and two kills.
Other top players for the match included Jacqui Ludeman with eight kills and five blocks; Breanne Gerbe with 10 service points, two aces and four digs; Shannon Gerbe with six service points, 10 digs and one kill; and Kristi Curtis with four digs.
The ladies faced a tough challenge on Monday against Brandon with their only setter out sick.
According to assitant coach Danielle Gerbe, the girls spent the hour before getting on the bus to learn a whole new rotation for serve reception and defensive positions.
“They handled it beautifully.”
The highlight player for the game was Tarrant who stepped in for Brandi Parker. She set 43 for 44 and had four kills and seven digs.
“Lyndsay did a spectacular job filling the setter position for the first time with very short notice, and played a strong offensive game as well,” said Gerbe.
Also holding the team strong was Inman with 13 kills, five blocks and seven service points; Ludeman with 13 kills and three blocks; Alivia Stalnaker with three kills and seven service points; and Shannon Gerbe with 10 service points and 10 digs.
The girls stand 30-2-1 overall and 7-0 in the Flint Metro League as they prepare to face off against Fenton on Thursday.
The girls have had some tough competitions against this team in the past and are preparing to play hard.
“If the girls keep playing their strong defensive game combined with a good offensive game, they should do well,” concluded Gerbe.
