New administrative assistants for fire department, treasurer

Brandon Twp.- Two current township employees have new titles and duties.
Kay Caryl, currently the administrative assistant to the township clerk, is moving to the Brandon Fire Department, where she will fill the administrative assistant position. Meanwhile, Colleen Collins, filling in at the treasurer’s office since August, will stay put there, but with the new title of part-time eligible administrative assistant.
The township board unanimously approved the hiring motions at their Dec. 1 meeting.
‘I come from a family of firefighters and it’s a great group to work with,? said Caryl of why she wanted the position with BFD.
Caryl received EMT training after she graduated from high school, but took a detour into the accounting field, working with a CPA firm for 12 years, before doing payroll accounting for St. Clair County for three years. She then moved to Goodrich and worked for the school district for four years as a lunchroom supervisor and special education parapro. She was hired by the township in July 2013.
Fire Chief Dave Kwapis is excited to welcome Caryl to the administrative assistant position, which has been vacant for three months. Caryl will not likely begin work at the fire department until the new year, however, since someone must first be found to take her position in the clerk’s office.
Collins? position takes effect immediately.
‘I love it here,? she said. ‘Everyone I work with is really nice and it’s close to home.?
