Dan Stevens is looking forward to working as a team with students, parents, teachers and the community as the new Brandon High School principal.
‘I’m excited to be a part of the great things going on here,? said Stevens after the Brandon School Board unanimously approved him for the principal position during a July 9 special meeting. ‘I think I bring to the district a great sense of communication, openness, and leadership, especially in technology and curriculum.?
Stevens earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education and health, with a minor in history from Central Michigan University. He also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Saginaw Valley State University, as well as education specialist in leadership with an emphasis in curriculum from SVSU.
For the past five years, he has been assistant principal at Romeo High School, where he helped develop curriculum, facilitated scheduling, evaluated staff and was directly involved in a technology overhaul of the district.
From 1999-2007 Stevens taught social studies in the Clarkston School District. His first teaching position was in the Morley-Stanwood School District near Grand Rapids, in the two years preceding Clarkston.
Stevens replaces Celeste Nowacki, who resigned as BHS principal to take a position in the Birmingham School District.
Superintendent Lorrie McMahon said many qualified candidates applied for the position as BHS principal.
‘We are excited that we were able to hire our top choice and I am confident he will be a great fit with our community,? she said.
Stevens is married to Amie and the father of Maddie, 8, and Baylie, 6.
