ATD Solutions started in 2000 as a home based business with mother and daughters Sandra Siler, Jackie Kopp and Nicole Jones. Over the past seven years, the business was at two other locations before finding its current home at 6978 Dixie Highway.
‘We love it, we moved to this location and doubled our size and now have eight employees,? said Kopp. ‘It’s working out great space wise, looks great, and our landlord can’t be any better.?
ATD’s services include QuickBooks consulting ATD helps setup, train and consult on QuickBooks to make sure the customer’s finances are correct.
‘So whenever anybody’s complaining about their QuickBooks, it’s not working right for them, usually if they give us a call we tweak the data entry and they’re happy with the outcome of their reports, so they can really manage their business and know where their money is.? said Kopp.
ATD also does ‘in house bookkeeping? or go to the client’s house if necessary.
‘We have a staff of four bookkeepers, that really helps to do the daily, monthly or bi-monthly bookkeeping for our clients,? said Kopp.
Most of their clients do not require a full time 40 hour bookkeeper, but need the ‘quality of the bookkeeping to be kept up, so clients bring things weekly, bi-weekly or at the end of the month so ATD can provide financial statements for them. ATD works with both large and small businesses, as well as personal finances as well.
‘We also have a financial statement interpretation service, where we can take two years of financial statements and print out words in laymen terms of what their financials mean and where they are compared to the industry. And give them a sense where their business compares to others or understand where their cash is going or what parts of the business they need to look at,? said Kopp.
ATD has done consulting through the computer and on the phone so they don’t have to drive to every client. With a client list more than 300 people, ATD has clients in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, as well as Florida and California.
‘The location doesn’t hinder us from doing any services for somebody,? said Kopp. ‘Now with new technology we can figure out a way to do it.?
Kopp said they get many complaints from people not knowing where to go to get help on QuickBooks.
‘Our goal is to try to publicize it so that everyone knows that there are QuickBooks supporters,? she said.
ATD means ‘Attention to Detail? and their logo is black and red.
‘We chose black and red because in the bookkeeping world you’re either in black or red,? said Kopp. ‘We hope you’re in the black, which means positive cash flow, but some people are in the red sometimes.?
One of the new things ATD Solutions is working on is franchise opportunities, for people to purchase a bookkeeping and QuickBooks consulting franchise. They will be trained and given support by ATD as well as the statewide international advertising needed in order to bring in business.
ATD Solutions keeps busy with the Clarkston and Waterford Chambers of Commerce as well as the Clarkston and Troy local business network. ATD also does a lot of expos both power and traditional networking, not a lot of advertising mostly word of mouth and referrals.
‘All three owners are QuickBooks pro advisors and certified in the use of QuickBooks and have degrees in either bookkeeping or accounting,? said Siler.
Siler’s background is in banking, Kopp’s in operations, and Jones? title company, closings and real estate.
‘I think the thing I enjoy the most about this business is even though bookkeeping is the same thing throughout different companies. What we get to do here is we get to do the bookkeeping for different companies, which means everything is just a little bit different,? said Kopp. ‘Every company needs a different setup of bookkeeping, different reports, so you get to know a lot of different businesses, how they work. It’s just not the same thing everyday, which is very interesting, very challenging, makes it fun.?
Siler said ‘you must love variety? to do the job working with many different people and businesses.
ATD works with all types of business including retail, legal, construction one of ATD’s specialties, insurance agencies, hair salons, restaurants, consulting service trades, and non-profits.
Siler, Kopp, and Jones are very appreciative of their hardworking staff.
‘We have a great staff. They definitely have helped us grow the business. Their knowledge in bookkeeping is outstanding. They’ve gone through our growing pain (with needing more space) which is really great,? said Kopp. ‘We’ve needed a lot of space for awhile and they’re just a great set of girls to work with, the clients enjoy them and they produce a lot of good work. And good books for our clients, we’re really, really pleased to have a good team working with us.?
