New look for pathways: Village sidewalk work begins

Ortonville- Residents will begin to see new sidewalks this week.
The village council approved Orion Concrete to do the work by a 5-2 vote. Harold Batten and Mary Kassuba were the dissenting votes.
Orion Concrete came in as the low bidder on the project, at $10.28 per linear foot for 4-inch thick concrete, and $11.399 per linear foot for 6-inch thick concrete. The total project will cost $63,331.09 and will cover sidewalks on both sides of Church Street from Mill Street to Oakwood Road; the entire length of James Street on the west side; the west side of Narrin Street and around the corner and south side of Mill Street in front of 46 Mill St.; and the east side of Cedar Street from Mill Street to Schoolhouse Street.
Orion Concrete was expected to begin work on Thursday on Church Street and continue until weather no longer permits.
‘They need to be done,? said Village Manager Ed Coy of the sidewalks. ‘Some are unsafe, and replacing the sidewalks will also improve the looks of the village.?
