New teachers excited about starting first day in classrooms

Approximately 20 new teachers participated in last week’s new teacher orientation.
The week-long orientation included meeting with administrators and school personnel to learn the inside-and-outs of being a teacher for Lake Orion Community Schools.
‘I think collectively it’s been a great week and we’ve learned a lot and we’re excited to be part of Lake Orion,? said Rudy Kellersohn, who will teach social studies at the high school. ‘We’ve done a lot of activities together, relationship building and now we’re going to be able to move on with our students, so I think from day one until now it’s been a huge help.?
Andrea Martin, a math teacher at the high school has enjoyed getting to know all the people in her department and at the high school.
‘It’s just been great and easing those nerves for the first day,? she said. ‘All the staff here and everybody just getting you acclimated to everything. It’s been a great experience.?
Fellow high school math teacher and former Lake Orion High School graduate Cortney Kimmel agreed.
‘All the new stuff we’ve learned and covered, build to that excitement,? she said. ‘As a first year teacher I’m ready to get started.?
Human Resources Consultant Bill Putney said teachers aren’t the only ones excited, but administration and staff are too.
‘All the new teachers come together with passion, enthusiasm, spirit, and phenomenal qualifications as instructional additions to Lake Orion Community Schools. It’s just fun to be with them,? said Putney who’s been in public education for 42 years.
‘Knowing the kids are going to be in classrooms with these professionals (and benefitting from) this quality is just marvelous,? he added. ‘It fuels what we do.?
Lake Orion Community Schools Superintendent Marion Ginopolis agreed.
‘We are a very excited to welcome a number of new teachers to our Lake Orion School family. They come highly prepared and highly qualified,? said Ginopolis. ‘As soon as we hired them they were already in their classrooms setting up for the very first day of school.?
Putney also noted the 20 new teachers were chosen out of thousands of applicants.
‘That’s the other thing about this district is,? he said. ‘It’s continuing to attract phenomenal talent.?
The first day of school will start after Labor Day on Tuesday September 4.
