Get the whole family together and join the North Oakland Concert Band this Sunday night (Dec. 9) for an evening of holiday season music.
The band, conducted by Annette Kline, will perform their annual seasonal concert at 6 p.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church. During the concert program, they will be joined by the Festival Choir from Christ the Redeemer, conducted by Mari Reyes.
Concert prelude music will be performed by the Schoolcraft Elementary Chorus from Waterford. The chorus is made up of approximately 50 volunteer fifth graders and will be directed and accompanied by Schoolcraft Elementary music teacher, Kris Libstaff, who is also a member of the NOCB percussion section.
The NOCB’s performance will include selections from ‘The Nutcracker? and ‘Sleigh Ride? by Leroy Anderson. Other seasonal music will be performed with the Festival Choir, including an arrangement of ‘White Christmas? and ‘The Christmas Song.?
For a little musical diversity, the ensemble will perform ‘Toccata Marziale? by Ralph Vaughn Williams. To conclude the concert, the audience will be invited to participate in what has become a tradition for this concert, the Hallelujah Chorus from ‘The Messiah? by Handel.
After the concert, join the NOCB members for beverages and treats at the afterglow in the church. To complete the evening’s musical experience, a saxophone quartet will provide background music during the afterglow.
The North Oakland Concert Band has been making music for 29 years. NOCB members represent a diverse mixture of professions and backgrounds, including many music education professionals.
