Nothing but ‘Good Times? in Goodrich

A forecast of sunny skies, warm temperatures and plenty of fun is expected as one of the premier summer events kicks off on Aug. 28 at Good Times in Goodrich.
Hundreds are expected to gather in downtown Goodrich to feast at area restaurants, enjoy a band or two and chat with the locals. The array of entertainment also includes an all-day craft show, art fair, tug-of-war contest, and an antique and vintage bike show.
The main attraction for children? the kids zone? will be returning this year and will again have inflatables and face-painting for no cost. Adults can take part in activities such as a bake-off contest, a business expo, and the Goodrich Has Got Talent event, where auditions are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and the finalists will sing on stage from 2-4 p.m.
The bake-off has been included in the Good Times in Goodrich festival for a number of years, but will experience a few changes starting this year.
‘All the profits gained from the bake-off will go to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan,? said Shirley Kautman-Jones, Atlas Township supervisor. Other bake-off changes include new prizes for the winners and a ‘people’s choice? vote, where anyone attending Good Times will be able to vote for whom they believe should win. Candidates for 67th District Court Judge, Gerald Snodgrass and Mark Latchana, will be helping judge the bake-off this year.
‘The money that is raised throughout the weekend will go to non-profit entities in the area and the festivities bring the community together in a positive way,? she said.
One event that will be exclusive to the second day of the Good Times, Aug. 29, is the ‘Restaurant Rendezvous.? This event features restaurants from around the area showcasing their best dishes to the general public.
For $10, visitors can sample food from more than 10 restaurants. All proceeds from this event, as with all the rest that require payment, will be donated to a local non-profit organization. See a complete list of times and activities on page 17.
