Talk show host Oprah Winfrey revealed the real reason behind her recent visit to the Orion General Motors Plant on her season premiere show Sept. 13, when she gave away 276 Pontiac G6 vehicles to audience members and guests on her show.
When Winfrey visited the Orion plant on Sept. 2, GM officials would only say that she toured the plant for about 90 minutes, and tried out some of the jobs on the assembly line. Winfrey’s representatives said at that time that she was just ‘visiting Detroit.?
The Orion plant manufactures the new G6, and the footage from Winfrey’s visit was broadcast Monday on the first show of her 19th season, themed ‘Making your Wildest Dreams Come True.?
The G6 sedans that were given away, covered by Pontiac at a cost between $7-8 million, were fully loaded and included such amenitites as Satellite Radio, On Star, heated leather seats and a panoramic sunroof. The audience members and guests were allowed to choose their own color.
The loaded G6 will retail for about $28,400. Pontiac also paid for the cost of titles, registrations and taxes for Winfrey’s audience and guests.
