Officer dies in

Groveland Twp. – Bloomfield Township Police Officer Gary Davis, a Groveland Township resident, died early Thursday morning after being hit by a vehicle while on duty.
Davis, 36, was a decorated 12-year veteran of the force.
At approximately 3 a.m. May 13, Davis had placed a driver in the back seat of his vehicle in a drunk-driving arrest.
‘As he was turning around on the freeway, a southbound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed struck the driver’s side of his patrol car,? said Bloomfield Township Police Chief Jeffrey Werner, in a statement issued Thursday morning.
Davis died as a result of the collision; the driver and arrested subject were seriously injured. The accident is being investigated by the Troy Police Department.
‘The death of Officer Davis is devastating not only to his family and friends, but to the entire police community and the citizens Officer Davis served,? said Werner.
No funeral arrangement information was available as of press time.
