OHS Cross Country Teams maintain winning records

The OHS Cross Country Team was victorious once again ? with a record of 44-0, the boys team have not lost a league meet in eight years.
The week started off great with a victory over Lapeer West and Holly on Sept. 22. The team was lead by Adam Richmond with a time of 17.17. He was followed by Germ’n Guerrero with a time of 17.30 and Kenny White coming in eight seconds behind.
The freshman boys had a phenomenal day. Ben Cole stepped up to finish seventh over all and fourth among Oxford. His time of 19.10 was a personal best. Teammate Adam Heskitt ran 19.25 to put him eighth overall. Todd Davidson and Brad Haney were both out for the races because of injuries.
On Sept. 25, the boys took second place at the Detroit Catholic Central Invitational.
Germ’n Guerrero finished third, Kenny White took fifth and Adam Richmond took seventh. An unfortunate accident injured up and coming runner Ben Cole – he injured his right ankle after tripping on a rock three quarters of a mile from the finish.
‘He was doing so good, it’s terrible that he got hurt,? said Kenny White.
Adam Heskitt though had a great run. He set a personal record breaking 19 minutes.
The Girls Cross Country Team won both meets as well: toppling both Holly and Lapper West. Due to injuries, captains Lauren Cribb and Emily Shoup were both out of the race.
‘It was hard to watch the race from the sidelines, but I was real proud of how good the girls performed,? said Cribb.
Heather Nefter finished with a personal best of 23.30, Morgan Stefanski came in with 23.38 and Jacque Magdaleno with a 23.42.
On Saturday, the girls did just as well.
‘We had five girls medal,? gushed Cribb. ‘Last year we only had two medal.?
Medaling for the Oxford ladies were Nefter in 12th with 22.04, Magdaleno in 28th with 22.03, Cribb in 36th with 23.15, Cassie Kish in 37th with 23.15 and Stefanski in 38th with 23.15.
Both the boys and the girls will race Wends and Fri this week. Wends race is home against Brandon and Friday’s race is the Brandon Invite.
Germ’n, 18, is a senior at Oxford High School. He is team captain for Cross Country and Track, and a staff member of the OHS yearbook. He plans to attend college where he will study either physical therapy or sports medicine, and continue his distance running.
