OHS presents Marine Mail Delivery presentation

The Orion Historical Society will have a presentation about marine mail delivery, that took place on Lake Orion during the first half of the 1900s, at their annual meeting on May 20 at historic Union Church, 11 Church Street near downtown Lake Orion.
Dick Stephen will be the keynote speaker, and the event begins at 11 a.m. Stephen will share his experiences as one of the last carriers delivering mail on the lake before the service was discontinued in the 1950s.
Part of a video produced by ONTV, with material researched by Ed Roberts, will be shown.
An opportunity to subscribe to membership in the OHS will also be offered, as well as registration for a members-only historic boat tour of Lake Orion in July.
Also attending the gathering will be Maura Johnson of Mannik & Smith, who has been working to establish Lake Orion’s first National Register Historic District. The application for designation will be examined by a review board in Lansing on May 19, the day before the OHS meeting.
A tour of Union Church will be available, and project manager Leslie Pielack, along with THA Architects, will be on hand to reveal discoveries made while assessing the building.
Those attending the May 20 meeting will hear exciting developments in this project.
Reservations can be made by contacting Sara Van Portfliet at 693-4154. The cost is $20, which includes lunch, presentations and tour. Proceeds benefit the Union Church restoration fund.
