OMS spikers finish 21-0

What a season!
On Jan. 22, Oxford’s eighth grade girl’s volleyball team finished their season undefeated, with a perfect 21-0.
Out of the 64 games played, there were only five games lost the entire season (middle school volleyball matches are determined by the best two out of three games).
They brought their game to each and every match and that’s reflected in their record. But more importantly, they grew together during their success. ‘I think we had fun winning and losing together,? said player Gabe Bocquet. ‘We have become very close as friends, but even more closely as a team.?
Because volleyball is a team sport, coach Gayle Tucker said it takes all facets of the game to win.
‘It takes everyone who is on the court, but it was the amazing teamwork that was exceptional every time these girls stepped out on the floor,? she said.
Player Logan Carpenter agreed.
‘Last year as seventh graders, we played as individuals, worrying about ourselves, not as a team,? she said. ‘Improving working together as a team was the reason for our success this season.?
According to Tucker, the statistics don’t matter. It’s the growth, dedication, work ethic, and the love for the game that really means something. ‘Our amazing dedication, teamwork and the willingness to help each other on and off the court is what was important,? said teammate Lindsay Leppek.
Coach Tucker would like to thank all the parents for their support. ‘All of this would not have been possible without their dedication to their daughters, the team and all the traveling,? she said. ‘It should be very exciting and enjoyable to watch them in action next season at Oxford High.?
