Are you looking at a state champion? Many local boys competed recently at the State Championships in Cadillac to see who was tops in men’s gymnastics.
Some of those boys have returned home as decorated athletes and the Gymnastic Training Center of Rochester (GTC) is their training ground.
Here’s a look at how some of the Lake Orion competitors fared:
GTC’s level five team came out strong against Michigan’s toughest competitors. Jacob Maurer took home the bronze medal for his 9.3 performance on the high bar. In the level five, 12 years and up division, Michael Roberts was awarded the state title for his vault of 9.7 and finished third in the all-around.
The level six team from GTC will raise the second place banner for their efforts at the state finals. Brandon Moore showed his strength and focus on the high bar and stood at the top of the podium for his 9.3. Alec Krystek tied for second on the parallel bars and placed fourth in the all-around. Andrew Ferguson and Jonathan Pitts also contributed to the level six team’s success.
Charlie Maurer was the state’s bronze medalist on the rings in the level seven, 12 and up division. Maurer finished ninth in the all-around.
The defending level eight state champs from GTC defended their title. That team included Joe Fraga.
