Pastor Kevin Shorkey is on a mission: to make the Ortonville Baptist Church Brandon’s community church.
‘We’re in the trenches,? says Pastor Kevin. The Church is here to help help people with the issues of life.?
Ortonville Baptist Church has been a Christ centered ministry in the Village of Ortonville since 1869. Today, OBC is committed to actively serving the village and surrounding communities.
‘We offer a variety of ministries aimed at a diverse community with a many needs,? said Pastor Kevin, the senior pastor for 2 1/2 years.
‘Our focus is on helping people discover a relationship with Jesus and to live it out fully.?
To achive this goal, Pastor Kevin along with the members OBC provide a host of activities.
From home groups that meet on Sunday nights to modern music during Sunday worship service to strong youth program on Wednesday nights’OBC provides the fabric of a Christian foundation to the community.
‘The church needs to grow larger and smaller at the same time,? says Pastor Kevin. ‘We believe that small home groups that meet on Sunday nights, rather than the traditional church service are the most effective way to grow a church because they are both biblical and relational. Many in those groups establish strong relationships that continue for life.?
In addition, Wednesday night youth programs at OBC draw more than 200 youth ranging from kindergarteners to seniors in high school. The youth groups are orgainzed by Pastor Ken Tison a member of OBC since he was a child. He served as part time youth leader for five years. In 2005 he became our full time youth pastor.
‘God is using Ken to develop our Youth and Children’s? ministries,? said Pastor Kevin.
Finally, at the irregular time of 11:05 a.m. Sunday’refered to by Pastor Kevin as a time easy to remember’sound of the praise band fill the church. A melodious change from the traditional Sunday morning music’a difference Pastor Kevin says is keeps the church relevant in today’s world.
‘We offer a variety of programs for a variety of people in the community,? said Pastor Kevin. ‘Stop by and visit us’you’ll see what we mean.?
