Balloons popping in the summer heat and face paint gliding across the cheeks of passersbys helped the Oxford 7 Theater raise $276 Aug. 6 in appreciation of the military and its family members who make the sacrifices that allow movie theaters to continue entertaining customers.
All proceeds are being distributed by American Military Family, Inc. to thank military families in Michigan.
Amongst the business expos and tents lining the streets for Celebrate Oxford, the Oxford 7 Theater set up a booth where for a two dollar donation passersby could pop a balloon for prizes donated by several local area businesses.
If a prize wasn’t what the doctor ordered, maybe hugging an Oxford 7 staff member did the trick, courtesy of Pat Dunham, Tyler West and Rolen Bourgeouis, who all wore signs requesting hugs for two dollars.
If either of these options weren’t enough, people also could indulge in face graffiti for just a dollar by one of the face painters.
Prize donations came from Joe’s Crab Shack, Cook’s Dairy Farm, Fatty’s Pizza, Grondins of Lake Orion, All Star Video, Frosty Boy, Achatz Pie Co. and Oxford 7.
Such prizes included free entrees, ice cream, personal pizzas, haircuts, hair care products, DVDs, pie, movie posters, candy and more.
The funds raised by the Oxford 7 staff are being dispersed by the AMF, a nonprofit organization originated by a small group of Colorado citizens.
The organization contacts the military base closest to the fundraising site and finds a family in most need of support.
The funds are then given to that family as a ‘thank you? for the sacrifices that family has made to help keep American citizens safe.
The goal of the AMF is to promote a positive campaign in direct support and appreciation of all those who serve to protect the citizens of this great country.
