Oxford grad killed in crash with ambulance

Waterford ? A 47-year-old former Oxford resident and 1975 OHS graduate was killed June 14 in an accident on Cass Lake Road at Oakshire Street.
Ellen Statwick, of Ortonville, was driving a 1998 Chrysler Concord when she turned onto northbound Cass Lake Road and was struck by an EMS vehicle that was southbound and responding to a call.
Sgt. Tim Hasselbach, Waterford Police crash investigator, said the accident is still being investigated, but initial reports are that the ambulance’s lights and sirens were activated at the time of the crash 9:15 p.m.
Statwick was pronounced dead at the scene; her passenger and son, 15-year-old Andrew Ball, was taken to a local hospital with injuries; both EMS employees were also taken to a local hospital and were treated and released. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts and airbags were used.
Statwick was the wife of Don Ball, a full-time Brandon firefighter/medic and former Oxford resident. Besides her husband and son Andrew, she also leaves behind another son David, 17.
