Oxford man one of Top five Dale Carnegie instructors

Oxford resident Tim Hixson, manager of training and development at United Way for Southeastern Michigan and a certified instructor with Dale Carnegie Training, has been recognized as one of the top five instructors worldwide in Dale Carnegie’s Business Impact and Job Effectiveness category of Instructor Effectiveness, through the third quarter of their fiscal year. He is currently ranked fourth in the category.
The recognition is based on student evaluations that are conducted at the final meeting of each class. Dale Carnegie & Associates awards instructors in two categories of instructor effectiveness: Business Impact and the Global Trainer of the Year. In order to qualify for the Business Impact Award, instructors must teach more than 90 students through the third quarter. Ranking is based on the highest percentage of responses received by class members when asked how effective the instructor’s training was on their job performance and what impact it will have on their job or business. Approximately 77 percent of Hixson’s students gave that category a ‘superior? ranking.
‘I had no idea Dale Carnegie was going through the award process,? said Hixson. ‘It was a total surprise when I heard that I was ranked with other instructors who are considered to be some of the most well-respected and well-liked in the country. It really was quite an honor for me.?
Worldwide, there are more than 2,300 certified Dale Carnegie instructors. Approximately 886 of those instructors, including Hixson, are considered active, having taught a class in the last year.
Hixson joined United Way for Southeastern Michigan in April 2005 to oversee the organization’s training and development program. In this role, he designs and develops the training program for workplace campaign coordinators, United Way Speakers Bureau volunteers, United Way Loaned Ambassadors, and staff. His training programs center on building communication and presentation skills so that volunteers and staff can effectively communicate United Way’s message to the public. Another component of his training assists participants with building self-confidence and comfort with public speaking.
Prior to joining United Way, Hixson was a full-time instructor with Dale Carnegie since 1999. He has consulted, written and conducted trainings for the organization for more than 15 years. Now working full-time at United Way, Hixson continues to maintain his instructor certification.
