‘Last week Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Oxford High School hosted the OAA Blue Division League Meet. During Wednesday’s swimming prelims, the 25 Oxford swimmers each swam two individual events and one or two relays.
Of the 50 individual events swam on Wednesday, 36 season-best times were set. Of the remaining 14 swims that were not improvements, many were very close.
‘We did DQ our 200 Free Relay due to an early exchange between the third’and fourth’swimmer, which means that we would not be able to earn any points in that event on Friday,? Rank explained. ‘That was the main bummer on Wednesday night, but there were so many positives.?
On Friday, Oxford swam and dove very well and finished in fourth’place. The final team standings were Farmington (562 points), Troy Athens (387), Stoney Creek (343), Oxford (300), Ferndale (177), Avondale (136), Southfield-Lathrup (86), and Hazel Park (68).
‘In the 200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Alexander (9th), McClenaghan (10th), Giannola (11th), and Commons (10th) took third’with a new school record of 2:00.13. 200 Freestyle: Freshman Claire Alexander finished second’with a time of 2:09.06. She finished the season fourth’on the All-Time Top Ten list for Oxford. Marisa Bourn finished in 16th’place for Oxford. 200 Individual Medley: Sophomore Rachel Commons took seventh’with a personal best time of 2:30.60, which puts her 5th’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Sophomore Emily Vican finished 10th’and Junior Rachael Baker came in 15th’place for Oxford. Emily Vican’s best time of the season puts her ninth’on the All-Time Top Ten list.
50 Freestyle: Junior Bella Giannola came in sixth’with a time of 26.69. She finishes the season third’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Sophomore Victoria McClenaghan came in seventh’and Junior Christina Boydston finished 11th’for Oxford. Both girls are on the All-Time Top Ten List. Also, scoring points for Oxford were Junior Hannah Schonfeld and Senior Kayla Krebs.
Diving: Freshman Keira Veltigian finished 1st’with a new school record of 345.10. Junior Jenna Zeiter finished 4th’with a new personal best score of 297.10. 100 Butterfly: Bella Giannola took 2nd’with a personal-best time of 1:02.64, which puts her second on the All-Time Top Ten list. Junior Danielle Kemp, who is currently 7th’on the All-Time Top Ten list finished eighth’at the league meet, and Freshman Paige Hodder finished 16th. 100 Freestyle: Rachel Commons took fifth’with a time of 59.75. She finishes the season sixth’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Christina Boydston finished seventh’with a personal best time of 1:00.98, which puts her ninth’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Also scoring points for Oxford were Kayla Krebs, Hannah Schonfeld, and Gracie Beebe.?
500 Freestyle: Claire Alexander finished fifth’with a personal best time of 5:48.45, which puts her third’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Danielle Kemp finished in eighth’place. She ends the season in seventh’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Emily Vican also scored points for Oxford in this event and just missed the All-Time Top Ten list by less than half of a second. 100 Backstroke: Freshman Tate Hamilton finished in 10th’place with a time of 1:17.39. Paige Hodder and Junior Paisley Arent also scored points for Oxford. 100 Breaststroke: Victoria McClenaghan finished in fifth’place and her best time this season from Prelims places her second’on the All-Time Top Ten list. Rachael Baker finished in 16thplace for Oxford. 400 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Alexander, Boydston, Commons, and Giannola took fourth’place with a season-best time of 4:00.19.
